Etymology: Late Greek biographia, from Greek bi- + -graphia -graphy. Date: 1683
David McDavitt:
Since first punching through the fragile paper heads of a toy drum kit at age seven, drums have been David's madness. Formative exposure to Japanese taiko & gospel drumming sealed his fate. He specializes in world drumkit musics: Afropop, Soukous, Reggae, Afro-Cuban, and Celtic. An avid ethnomusicologist, David has studied with Asante Okyerema (the Ashanti royal drummer who played on Paul Simon’s "Graceland" tour), and M.T. Addy. He has played with Big Village, Jamal Millner (Corey Harris), Different Drummer, Elikeh, & Chopteeth. David is inspired by Stewart Copeland, Carlton Barrett (Bob Marley), Tony Allen, & Brice Wassey (Salif Keita).
